Can I Have a Pet Door in My Screen Door? Who wants to open and close their doors every time your furry friend wants to come and go? But can you install a pet door in a Security Screen?
The simple answer is yes!
Many Australians love their pets, so here at Suburban Security Screens, we offer pet door installation along with our security screen door installation. Let’s explore how Petway pet doors work, the different options and how to pick the right one.
Petway for Security Doors
Petway has designed pet doors, these can be fitted to aluminium, stainless-steel security screens and fly screen doors. They come in three sizes, small, medium, and large, made from quality UV stabilised plastic.
Petway also manufacturers their pet doors in six different colours to match the most common coloured security door frames. Black is the most common colour to match the mesh in your screen door. With a super-slim profile, these pet doors are perfect for sliding screens that protect your glass sliding doors.
Can You Lock a Pet Door?
Yes, these pet doors are lockable controlling which way your pet can enter or exit.
The small and medium pet doors have convenient slide-up locks on both the inside and the outside, when both sides are unlocked the flap will swing freely. If the outside lock is up then your furry friend can go out. Is the inside lock up? That’s right your pet or a neighbour’s pet can’t come inside.
The large pet doors designed for large, boisterous, or strong dogs have a slide-up panel that is lockable from the inside. Please note that even though these doors are made for installation on security doors and are lockable any pet door can compromise the security of your home.
Petway’s pet doors are made in Australia, right here on the Gold Coast!
How To Choose Which Size Pet Door You Need
It is essential when getting a pet door installed by a professional to ensure you have the right size, the wrong size may cause a lot of headaches.
Generally, your pet door flap height should be 2cm taller than your largest pet, and the step over shouldn’t be higher than one-third of the height of your smallest pet’s back.
Another way to check if you have the right size is to draw the measurement of the pet door on a bit of cardboard and cut the hole out, coax your furry friend through to see if he or she fits.
Please note that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to determine the correct size.
So do your homework!
Paw Proof Mesh
Suburban Security Screens also offers security doors made with Paw Proof Mesh, this is a very durable fibreglass mesh, that lasts longer and is much stronger than standard fibreglass mesh. It is a popular mesh designed for homes with children and pets.
Cats tend to scratch their claws down many different textures, if your feline did this on an average fly mesh it would get damaged very quickly. Some dogs like to jump up on a door when excited. Paw Proof mesh will withstand more wear and tear than standard fibreglass mesh.
