How to put your security door back on its tracks, a new and well-installed door shouldn’t come off its tracks, however, if your sliding door is old and worn it may become a regular occurrence – below we explore why you may be having issues and how to put the screen door back onto its tracks.
Identify the Security Door Issue
As mentioned, a well-installed sliding door should not come off its track. This means either there is an installation-related issue or some other damage. You may consider the following points to identify the issue with your door:
If the door has been in use for a long time, the chances are that either the rollers need replacing or the track has worn. Due to this, the rollers aren’t moving within the track channel.
If the door is newly installed, check the straightness of the wall along with which the sliding door track has been fixed. There are chances that the track alignment is not correct so the rollers are coming off the track while sliding the door.
Check if the door closes softly or not. If it is stiff while closing or opening at either end, then there is a chance of rollers coming off the track.
If you carefully examine your door considering the above points, you should be able to identify and sort out the issue.
How to Put your Security Door Back on its Tracks
What can you do if you’re your security door comes off its tracks? It may not be a regular occurrence but when it does happen it can be a difficult task to rectify without the know-how, this is why we have provided step-by-step instructions.
Step one
First off, you may need a stepladder and a Phillips head screwdriver. If you can acquire an extra set of hands, that would really help!
Prepare the rollers
The rollers will need to be adjusted so that they are spring-loaded rather than locked in place. Always view your door from the inside to adjust the rollers.
To ensure the rollers are spring-loaded, the screw must be loosened in a small hole on the inside of the frame.
If it is engaged you can press the roller down inside the frame and it rises back up again, insert your Phillips head screwdriver into the screw hole and tighten again.
Make sure you repeat this step on the upper frame’s two rollers.
Lifting the Door Back into the Frames
Step Two
Prepare to raise the screen and replace it.
Once you are sure the rollers are spring loaded, lift the door in from the outside of the building putting the top of the door into the top track first.
After placing the top of the frame within the top track, you can then repeat with the bottom by placing the bottom frame back onto the bottom track, ensuring you get the 2 rollers to sit on the bottom track.
Fingers Crossed —the security door should now be sliding smoothly again! The top rollers and wheels need to be adjusted in the last stage. Reinstalling your sliding security screen door on its tracks can be difficult. We truly hope that these recommendations have been useful.
